There’s not much better than Chicago in the summertime. This weekend, in particular, there are dozens of exciting things to do (Tour de Fat, Taste of Chicago, Summerfest, and Pride Fest are but a few examples). After much deliberation, Green Mansions Foundation has decided to attend the Chicago Green Music Fest on Sunday, June 27.
The innovative green technology-themed event will fuse original live music with green vendors, services and local retail, art, craft and food vendors. There will be two stages and musical guests include great acts such as the Wailers and DJ Klever. There will also be activities for kids of all ages, including break-dancing lessons, cooking demonstrations, and face painting.
Important to Green Mansions Foundation is that the event will also be produced in the most eco-friendly way possible with bio-diesel fuel operated generators, biodegradable plastic cups, recycling and composting options, free bike valet courtesy of Active Transportation Alliance and Special Service Area 29.
The Green Music Fest is located in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood, on Chicago Ave. between Ashland and Noble. The event runs from 12 pm – 10 pm on June 26 and 27. There is a suggested donation of $5.

Green Mansions Foundation was lucky enough to tour Milwaukee’s very own Lakefront Brewery yesterday. The tour costs only $7 and included beer tokens redeemable for 4 generous pours of Lakefront’s best brews. Lakefront encourages sustainability and rewards you with a free pint glass upon the return of your compostable beer cup at the end of the tour.
Lakefront Brewery has teamed up with Growing Power, a local nonprofit that supports people from diverse backgrounds to develop community food centers. Lakefront delivers over 20,000 pounds of brewery waste to Growing Power every week. This waste becomes worm food and eventually becomes vermicompost. Lakefront then uses the vermicompost to support its brewing hops.
Next time you’re in Milwaukee, stop by Lakefront Brewery, enjoy some amazing beer, and support sustainable brewing.
